Holy Family RC & CE College
Holy Family RC and CE College in Heywood is to receive £10million to upgrade its existing school buildings and grounds. Contracts for the scheme have been signed and construction is due to start in the New Year.
As part of the investment, Holy Family will receive a combination of new facilities, including a brand new sports hall and changing rooms together with a dedicated food technology block. The existing 3-storey building will be demolished and replaced with a new teaching block, whilst the remainder of the school buildings will be completely transformed through a combination of remodelling and refurbishment works to create improved teaching, dining and social facilities for the pupils and staff.
A new pedestrian route will be created from the perimeter to the main visitor and pupil entrances and there will be a new cycle route leading directly to a secure cycle area. The college will also receive improved ICT services, enabling pupils and staff to access learning with ease using the latest technology.
Councillor Donna Martin, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families, said: “Holy Family RC & CE College is already rated as outstanding by Ofsted in recognition of the high quality of education provided and these ambitious rebuilding plans will take the school from strength to strength.”
Holy Family is the third Heywood school to receive funding as part of Rochdale’s £192m Building Schools for the Future programme, with construction works almost complete at nearby Siddal Moor Sports College and the brand new Darnhill Study Centre really starting to take shape after construction work started in October.
The investment programme is being delivered by the council’s local education partnership, inspiredspaces Rochdale, and their main building contractor, Carillion.
Claire Butler, General Manager of inspiredspaces said: “It is a privilege to be involved in delivering such an unprecedented level of investment in education across the borough. We are looking forward to continuing to work with the school throughout the build period to deliver construction-related curriculum projects, work experience and careers advice for the students.”
