Hair and media make-up students help out with ‘Rochdale Pioneers’ film

Date published: 18 December 2011

Students from Hopwood Hall College’s Level 3 Hair and Media Make-Up department have been working alongside the British Youth Film Academy (BYFA) for ‘The Rochdale Pioneers’ film.

The students have been working on set, applying the skills that they have developed at the College and using them to apply make-up to the actors.

They have been working in Rochdale, Heptonstall, Hebdenbridge, Todmorden and the Science Museum in Manchester.

The film, set in 1840, tells the story of the co-operative and its birthplace Rochdale; it explains the history behind the famous co-operative pioneers and how they first got started all those years ago in Toad Lane, Rochdale.

Tutor Lizz North, Level 3 Hair & Media Make-Up Co-ordinator, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the students who have loved every minute of taking part in this amazing opportunity, which some people only dream off.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our fantastic Image team for helping out so much with every aspect of planning this brilliant work experience; we are really grateful to our Curriculum Manager (Maria Allman) and Curriculum Manager for Beauty Therapy (Liz Fisher) for taking so much time out of their busy schedules to support and advise myself, staff members and, of course, the learners.”
