Shopkeeper, 50, punched in face by robber

A 50-year-old woman shopkeeper was punched in the face by a robber at a shop in Bamford.

At around 8.10pm on Thursday (15 December) two men – armed with crow bars - walked into Bamford Wines on Bury Road.

One man forced a customer into the back office, while the other man punched the shopkeeper in the face, knocking her to the ground.

The pair demanded money and forced her to open the till before they left with cash and bottles of vodka.

Both robbers were seen getting into a white Audi A3 and drove in the direction of Rochdale.

The first man is described as being white, around 5ft 9in, between 20 and 30-years-old and of medium build. He was wearing a balaclava, black jacket and black gloves.

The second man is described as being white, 6ft tall and between 25 and 35-years-old. He was wearing a balaclava, black hooded top and black gloves. He held a distinctive green crowbar and spoke with a local accent.

Detective Constable Richard Shelton from Rochdale CID said: “Both the customer and shop keeper were both left terrified after their ordeal and have been left deeply affected by what happened.

“These men showed no hesitation in frightening their victims and assaulting a defenceless woman.

“I would urge anyone who may have seen the incident or the men driving off in a white Audi to contact police. The information you hold may help us catch those responsible.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 4557 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
