MP in train blunder
Date published: 17 December 2011
Rochdale’s MP Simon Danczuk blundered earlier this week after incorrectly stating that the Manchester to Leeds train line electrification will benefit Rochdale - when in fact the line will run via Huddersfield not Rochdale.
In a newspaper report about the introduction of new carriages across Northern Rail Mr Danczuk said: “I’m delighted that not only will Rochdale be benefitting from the Manchester to Leeds line electrification but by introducing an extra 50 carriages Northern are starting to tackle over crowding too.”
The mistake was spotted by eagle-eyed reader Frank Salt from Castleton.
Mr Danczuk failed to respond to an invitation to comment.
