Man, 69, dies after ‘falling’ on bonfire

A joint investigation between the police and the fire service has been launched after the body of a man was found on a bonfire.
Fire crews were called to Darlington Road, Kirkholt, by police, shortly before 5.00pm on Thursday (15 December). When they arrived they found a 69-year-old man who is believed to have fallen onto the bonfire in his back garden.
A spokesperson for the fire service said it appeared that the man had been dead for some time before police and fire crews arrived.
The fire was out when fire-fighters arrived.
An investigation is ongoing.
