Christmas market comes to town

Date published: 14 December 2011

The annual Rochdale Christmas Market returns to the town centre next week.

This year the market will be bigger and better than ever, with over 30 stalls which will extend down Lower Yorkshire Street and onto the Butts.

Traders will transform the town into a festive winter wonderland, with stalls selling a wide range of tempting food and last minute Christmas gifts, from toys and books to fashion and accessories.

Councillor Sultan Ali, Chairman of Rochdale Township said: "The Christmas Market brings people into our town centre to enjoy a range of stalls and traditional entertainment, as well as benefiting local businesses. I do hope people will come and support it.

“You'll find bustling stalls filled with fabulous seasonal treats and gifts right here in Rochdale.”

The Market will offer a range of goods including bespoke jewellery, crafts from around the world, handbags, candles, hats, gloves and handmade soaps.

There will also be special fudge, sweets, olives, gourmet sausages, mince pies, Christmas pudding and maybe even some ostrich or kangaroo meat.

Stallholders from around Europe will be joining local traders and organisers are expecting hundreds of vistors to attend. There will also be live Christmas music from Rochdale Music Service at lunchtimes on Lord Square.

The Christmas Market runs from Tuesday 20 to Friday 23 December and is open daily between 10.00am and 6.00pm.
