Inua and the students
Award winning poet and performer Inua Ellams visited students at Hopwood Hall College.
2009 saw the debut of Inua’s first play – The 14th Tale - which toured nationally, scooping a prestigious Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival before returning to London for a sold-out run at The Cottesloe, National Theatre.
Inua uses rap as well as more traditional influences in his poetry and, the students’ teacher Pam Singleton arranged the visit because “he is a rather cool ambassador for poetry.”
Ms Singleton, said: “It went down very well indeed with a good turnout, particularly from sports students and Access students.
“Inua is very charismatic and he showed the students what poetry can be - not a static thing on a page, but something to be shared and performed.
“The experience has enhanced lessons a great deal since.”
