A champion brass concert has raised over £8,000 for Help for Heroes.

The fundraiser, which featured the national champion brass band of Great Britain, The Brighouse and Rastrick Band, was attended by 688 people at the end of November.

Today (13 December) the event’s organisers and sponsors - Sandifords of Drake Street - presented a cheque for £8,119.43 to Vincent Simpson, Help for Heroes Volunteer Co-ordinator for Manchester.

Ian Sandiford described the evening as a “night to remember” and said he was “delighted” with amount raised.

He added that he would like to thank all the people who supported the event with “their overwhelming generosity” and the audience for making the concert a “marvellous occasion.”

Mr Simpson, Help for Heroes Co-ordinator, said: “The people of Rochdale who attended on the night gave £8,119.43 – every penny came from the goodness of their hearts and the good people of Rochdale can be assured that the money raised will be used in the way want it to be used.”

Mr Simpson added: “What always impresses me is the generosity of people when people have a seed of an idea that develops, like Ian and his wife have done, and it grows and grows.”
