Whiz Kids! -A big ‘well done’ to those pupils who have taken part in a ‘Whiz Kids’ wheelchair independence programme! From talking to some of the pupils taking part and the course leader everybody is having great fun and learning new techniques to support pupils’ independence, both in school and in the community. Parental Surveys – Autumn Term 2011 the results of the survey will be published in the first week in January. Many thanks for your support with this. Autumn Term Reports – have been sent out this is an update on the progress your son / daughter has made this term.

Post 16 Destinations - Many thanks to parents/carers of Year 11 students who recently completed the Rochdale MBC/Redwood Post 16 Provision application process. These will be taken to an admissions panel meeting in January with the Local Authority.

Key Stage 4 news - the whole school worked hard together to put on a Christmas fair for visitors to come and do some Christmas shopping and have some fun. The pupils worked really hard and the fair was a great success. Mr Barnes maths group have been using their maths skills to play giant dominoes. The SEB unit have been extremely busy, they had a trip to Rochdale to buy their Christmas presents for their loved ones, they have been decorating their classes with lots of Christmas decorations they have made. In Science they are making reindeer dust and in music they have chosen to look and listen to some contemporary Christmas music. Good luck to Sandra and Liam who are starting their Independent travel programme shortly. 4L have been busy making decals for some cars they have made.

Key Stage 3 News— Thank you for your contributions to the Christmas Fair—We have musical talent—Ellis has been having 1:1 tuition with Mrs Lansom Smith to play the guitar whilst Callum is learning to play the saxophone. The department is looking ‘Christmasey’ now with the corridors and classrooms decorated– the students have made paperchains.

Visits have been made to the Christmas Markets to buy Christmas Chocolates. Yr 7 green have been recycling plastic, paper and cans as part of Geography We held a team building session which involved the Learning Mentor—Jo Wilson—it was entitled ‘Hug a Wilson day!’

6th Form news - 15 students and 6 staff have had a 3 day residential in London. The group all had a brilliant time and will hopefully fill us in with more details about their holiday next week. We are getting into the festive spirit by decorating the department, listening to carol singers and enjoying a drink and mince pie. Thank you to our friends Kath and John and their choir who came in and played Christmas carols. As part of their transition Andrew and Amy visited Bury college’s coffee morning, where they had the opportunity to mingle with other students and have a look around the college facilities.
Merry Christmas- Redwood closes for Christmas on Tuesday 20 December 2011 and re-opens on Wednesday 4 January 2012. Happy New Year.
