Couple escape house fire
Date published: 12 December 2011
A man and woman escaped a house fire in Rochdale.
At 12.20am today (Monday 12 December) fire-fighters from Rochdale were called to a fire at a terraced house on Prince Street. While on their way to the blaze, they received a report that people were inside the house so a third engine was called out.
A 31-year-old man and his 30-year-old wife had been inside when the fire started at the front of the house.
By the time fire-fighters arrived, the man had smashed a window at the back of the house and he and his wife has escaped.
Smoke and flames were billowing from the ground floor.
Four fire-fighters wearing breathing apparatus went in, put the fire out with hose reels and used a fan to clear the smoke.
The 31-year-old man was treated at the scene for cuts he suffered when he smashed the window to escape.
A joint Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and Greater Manchester Police investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire.
