Date published: 09 December 2011

A supermarket worker had a machete held to his throat during an armed robbery at Asda on Kingsway Retail Park last night (Thursday 8 December).

Four men knocked on the back door of the store and one of them grabbed a member of staff and held a machete to his throat.

They then ordered the staff to get the store manager and demanded to be taken to the cash room.

Once in the cash room they were unable to open the locked safe and fled with mobile phones belonging to the staff.

Nobody was hurt in the incident but the staff were left shaken, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said.

Police were called to the scene at 7.55pm.

All of the robbers were male.

One was described as 5’9”-5’11” tall, wearing a black balaclava and grey jogging bottoms with a blue stripe down the side.

Another was wearing black with his face hidden by a balaclava.

The other two robbers were also wearing balaclavas and were between 5’ to 5’6” tall.
