Man, 89, rescued by fire-fighters
Date published: 09 December 2011
Fire-fighters rescued an elderly man from a terraced house on Atkinson Street, Castleton, in the early hours of this morning (Friday 9 December) after a fire involving a motorhome spread to nearby properties.
Fire crews from Rochdale and Heywood Fire Stations broke the door down to the terraced house and evacuated the man, aged 89, who was treated at the scene for the effects of smoke but declined hospital treatment.
Using four hose reels and breathing apparatus, crews brought the flames under control.
The fire is believed to have started with an electrical fault in the motorhome, which was destroyed in the blaze.
