Milnrow Band
Milnrow Band has commenced its programme of Christmas concerts with its yearly visit to Eccles.
The band entertained the audience at St Andrew’s Church, Eccles, and under the direction of Marieka Gray provided a well balanced programme of festive carols, which included favourites such as "Snowman-Walking in the Air," "Hark the Herald Angels," O`Come all ye Faithful" and "White Christmas.”
The highlight of the evening featured three from the trombone section playing "I will follow him" from the feature film Sister Act, and a new enthralling piece called "Sleep" by Eric Whittaker.
Flugel Horn player Romana Halstead once again excelled in a solo item.
The percussion section of Owen Middlemiss (Kit) and John Connell (Tymps) was featured in the final item of the evening "Sing, Sing, Sing," once made famous in the 1930s by Benny Goodman and his Band.
Marieka Gray kept the proceedings moving nicely with her interesting and informative commentary.
Members of the congregation and appreciation of the band’s efforts were shown with the promise of a repeat booking for 2012.
