A group of fundraisers from Rochdale have received an accolade at Marie Curie Cancer Care’s National Volunteer Achievement awards.

The ‘Rochdale Fundraising Group’ was awarded the Exceptional Fundraising Group Award at the ceremony held at the London Stock Exchange.

The group have been busy fundraising for the last seven years and they first got involved with the charity when the group’s Chairwoman Vivien Thompson contacted the fundraising office after struggling to find a Daffodil in Rochdale during the Daffodil Appeal.

Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Director of Volunteering, Ruth Bravery, said: “The Marie Curie Cancer Care Volunteer Achievement Awards provide a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and thank volunteers for their extraordinary personal contribution and dedication to the charity.

“Support from volunteers like the Rochdale Fundraising Group means the charity can continue to raise funds to provide nursing care and support for terminally ill people and their families.”

The group received a specially commissioned Caithness Glass paperweight and certificate at the special awards presentation ceremony.

The Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Volunteer Achievement Awards have been established to celebrate the commitment, enthusiasm and personal contribution made by volunteers across the charity and recognises outstanding individuals and group volunteer efforts.
