A 77-year-old jeweller was threatened at knifepoint during a robbery at his Heywood store.
At about 4.25pm on Saturday 26 November, the two offenders went into Pearson's Jewellers on Market Street and threatened the owner with a knife.
Spooked by the alarm, they smashed a display case with a hammer and left, smashing the front window as ran off towards Mission Street.
Nothing was stolen but the man was left shaken.
The first offender is described as having a pale complexion, in his late teens, 5ft 9in tall, of slim build with short, light coloured hair.
The second offender is described as white, 5ft 9in tall, of slim build and in his late teens.
Detective Constable Ben Harris, of Rochdale CID, said: "While these offenders were unsuccessful in their attempt to steal goods, they have threatened the owner and damaged his property.
"The victim is a local businessman who has worked in the area for many years and I want to reassure him, other local businesses and residents that we are doing all we can to identify the offenders.
"If anyone knows anything about the person responsible or was in the area at the time I would ask them to call me."
Anyone with information is asked to call Rochdale CID on 0161 856 4644, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
