New Council boss will earn £25k less
Date published: 02 December 2011
The new Chief Executive of Rochdale Borough Council will earn about £25,000 less than Roger Ellis, who currently holds the role.
Mr Ellis – who currently earns around £150,000 - will leave the Council in March next year.
Earlier this year he announced his decision to take voluntary early retirement. Talks then began over sharing a Chief Executive with Oldham Council but since the plans fell through the Council has opted to fill Mr Ellis’ post.
At a private Cabinet meeting, councillors decided that they will look both internally and externally to fill the post and that the new salary will be between £125,000 and £130,000.
At the meeting it was noted that the person who fills the role will have an initial task of reporting what savings can be made.
Councillors requested that the role holder must “once appointed, submit a report at the earliest possible date regarding the potential for savings which might be achieved from senior management costs and the implications of these for the organisation.”
