Driver stabbed in cash in transit robbery
Date published: 02 December 2011
A driver has been stabbed in the arm during cash in transit robbery.
At around 2.40pm on Tuesday (29 November), two men ran into the Natwest Bank on Market Place, Heywood, as a 53-year old G4S driver was collecting money.
He parked his vehicle outside the bank, at the junction with Market Place and Hind Hill Street and walked inside.
The two men approached him and stabbed him in the arm before escaping empty handed.
Detective Constable Janice Cruttwell from Rochdale CID said: “This is a serious attack and we know at this time the area around Market Place and Hind Hill Street was exceptionally busy both with vehicles and pedestrians.
“I would urge anyone who was in the area to come forward and speak to us.
“Obviously the men were not scared of using a weapon and I would urge any members of the public thinking of tackling them to contact police as soon as possible.”
Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8437 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111
