Bin collections as normal over Christmas

Rochdale is gearing up for a bumper Christmas of recycling, with bin collections continuing every day as normal.

The environmental management team is reassuring residents that the festive season won’t spell disruption for collections, with all bins being picked up as normal on the usual days.

The crews will be working between Christmas and New Year, including on the Bank Holiday on Tuesday 27 December.

Councillor Martin Burke, Cabinet Member for Internal and Environmental Services, said: “We know that having timely bin collections is very important to the people of our borough and we don’t intend to let them down just because it’s Christmas.

“I would encourage everyone to make the most of all the recycling opportunities that Christmas brings. The blue bin will take all cards and wrapping paper, food caddies are ideal for leftover food, while plastic packaging, cans, glass bottles, plastic bottles and jars will go in the green bin.”

Last year, residents also helped the council set a new record by recycling 6,000 trees. That was shredded to produce 30 tonnes of wood chip which was used in the borough’s parks and countryside.

Residents have the option of either cutting their trees up themselves and placing them in the brown bin or choosing from 23 different Christmas tree recycling drop off points, which will be open at all times between 3 and 17 January.
