Child playing with lighter starts fire
Date published: 01 December 2011
A fire started in the bedroom of a house in Kirkholt after a child had been playing with a cigarette lighter.
Fire crews from Chadderton and Bury were called to a semi-detached house on Hill Top Drive at 10.40pm on Wednesday (30 November).
Four fire-fighters wearing breathing apparatus went in and put the blaze out using two hose reels.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue advice:
- Take responsibility and keep lighters and matches out of the reach of children. Every year children die from starting fires with cigarettes and lighters they shouldn't have.
- Consider buying child resistant lighters and matchboxes. Matchboxes now carry this warning label.
