Sally Williams, from the BBC's 'Insideout', visited the St Cuthbert's English department last week to explore the impact poetry has on learning.
The programme followed three poets from the Northwest: Carol Ann Duffy, John Cooper Clarke and Mike Garry, St Cuthbert's poet in residence.
The programme wants to investigate the power that poetry can have in different contexts, with a focus on poems that have a strong regional identity.
The programme explored the impact that Mike's poetry has had on students of
St Cuthbert's and filmed him working with a Year 7 and Year 11 class. Two former pupils, Alice Francisco and Honey, returned to school from university to discuss the impact that Mike's poetry had on their educational experience.
They described how they still wrote their own poems as a consequence of Mike's teaching.
The programme is to be broadcast on the 5th December, BBC 1 7.30pm.
