Key stage 4 news -SEB have been very busy again preparing for the Christmas fair, their baking skills are being put to the test producing lots of Christmas cakes and mince pies. They have also been shopping to buy presents for someone special in their lives at Christmas time. Last week a group of Yr 11 pupils went to a young Enterprise day at Rochdale town hall. They were joined by pupils from other schools in Rochdale and worked together to produce a new restaurant ready for the Olympic Games 2012. All our pupils worked extremely hard and it showed when a team with two of our pupils Sandra and Rezwana won the best restaurant prize. Well done girls!!! Yr 10 and 11 pupils have had mock interviews with people from external agencies to give them a taste of what an interview feels like when it comes to the real thing. The people who came to interview the pupils range from college tutors to work place employers, the pupils have been preparing for this and have done extremely well, the feedback from the interviewers was excellent.

We recently worked together as a key stage to complete the Treasure Island challenge. Pupils worked in tutor groups to complete the activities set around the school. Staff were dressed as pirates and pupils wore their own clothes as long as they were blue for the day. All donations will be sent to Children in Need. Daisy’s fact of the week: Windmills always turn counter-clockwise. Except for the windmills in Ireland!

Key Stage 3 News—Bike ability have been in school with many pupils taking part, Jordan especially enjoyed riding the bikes. Congratulations to Amelia—she is the first Yr7 student to become a Wheelchair facilitator. We welcomed parents of Yr 7 to a coffee morning, they also had an opportunity to join a Maths lesson and make Christmas cards! Yr 8/9 blue continue with their weekly visits and keep fit programmes at Shokk Gym. Dwyane and Ellis attended Langley Youth Club for the first time with Dave Wilmore, youth club leader who also helps out in school.

As part of anti bullying week a group completed a session about what is bullying and what is having a joke! 5 boys from yr 9 worked well together on other aspects of bullying. We have a Bruno Mars look alike! Everyone thinks that Callum is the double of the very talented Mr Mars!

Rotary club attended assembly this week to explain about the shoe box appeal and the children they go to.

6th form news - 8 students and 4 staff have been to the Calvert Trust in Keswick. The group took part in various outdoor activities and pursuits throughout the week. We are looking forward to them sharing their experiences with us. Thanks to Helen and Mark from Bikeability who enabled the students to go for a bike ride with a range of cycles. There were tricycles, a two seater quad cycle and a rickshaw style tricycle with a platform for a wheelchair. Several 6th Form classes were able to take advantage and although some were a little nervous at first they soon gained confidence and had a great time as well as getting some good exercise.

The Office Practice / Media group visited Hillside Printing Services on Tuesday as part of Vocational Education. They were lucky enough to see the 6th Form brochure go to print. Jason gave them a tour of the facilities and they saw how the brochure was made from a CD of text and images, into plates for the printing machine and then into the final copy for the brochure, that will be sent to all prospective students in the future. The skill of the staff and attention to detail in checking that the colours were right, amazed everyone.
