Festive cheer as Christmas lights switched on in Littleborough

The festive spirit was on show in Littleborough on Sunday evening as hundreds of people came together for the Christmas lights switch on.
 
Littleborough Square was filled with families eagerly awaiting the switch on following a day of activities, including the Farmers’ Market, the Lancashire Day Proclamation and Morris Dancing courtesy of the Thieving Magpies.
 
The lights were switched on by the winner of the Littleborough Lion's Peace Poster Competition - 11-year-old Jessica Frater from Smithy Bridge Primary School - Jessica impressed the competition’s judges with her poster which showed a world that was half peaceful and half filled with war. She said she was “excited” to be switching on the Christmas lights.

Music was provided by Littleborough Brass Band and children enjoyed fairground rides and a visit from Santa.

Steve Lister from LEAF (Littleborough Events and Associations Forum) who organised the event, said: “Today has been hectic but exciting and highly successful. The weather has been superb and the crowds have turned out, it has been busy all day.”

Littleborough Lakeside Councillor Peter Evans described the day as “excellent.”

He said: “It has been fantastic; it really brings the community closer together.”
