Early Christmas present for Sunday train travellers

Date published: 23 November 2011

Extra Sunday train services between Rochdale and Manchester have been introduced for Christmas shoppers.

Campaign group STORM (Support the Oldham, Rochdale and Manchester rail line) have welcomed the introduction, courtesy of Northern Rail and Transport for Greater Manchester.

The extra trains will run between Rochdale and Manchester Victoria and back on the following Sundays: 27 November, 4, 11, 18 December.

Richard Greenwood, Chairman of STORM, said: “This shows how local groups cooperating with the train operators and Transport For Greater Manchester can achieve better services for the travelling public.”

The extra trains won’t serve Littleborough and Smithy Bridge, but Mr Greenwood said: “Who knows what can be achieved next year.”
