A woman accused of anti social behaviour because of regular drunken, abusive and violent conduct has been given a two year Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO).
Ruth Clegg of Heywood, caused distress to residents in an area of Littleborough, where she used to live, for a sustained period of time that resulted in regular police attendance.
Following reports from residents, staff from Rochdale Boroughwide Housing’s Legal Services and Enforcement Team (LSET) and Greater Manchester Police worked closely to collect evidence and secure the Order.
A representative from LSET said: “The impact of the behaviour of Ruth Clegg on the community has been significant and many people were reluctant to come forward at first and speak out against her, due to the fear of reprisals.
“However the outcome of this case illustrates what can be achieved when the local community and the agencies responsible for tackling anti social behaviour work together.
“Our thanks go out to all those who came forward to assist us in this matter”
The Anti Social Behaviour Order prohibits Clegg from:
- Acting in a manner which causes or is likely to cause nuisance, harassment, alarm or distress to one or more persons not of the same household within the boundaries of Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council.
- Having contact with or otherwise associating with or attempting to contact direct or otherwise, a named associate.
- Entering or attempting to enter the areas in and around Joseph Street, Littleborough, Rochdale.
- Consuming alcohol in a public place.
- Being in a disorderly or drunken state in any public place.
- Using abusive, insulting, offensive language or behaviour towards any person in any public place within sight of any person not from the same household as herself within the Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council area.
- Calling or causing others to call the 999 Emergency Telephone System for any reason other than in the event of a genuine emergency.
Inspector Jem Davies of Littleborough Police requests that any member of the public aware of Clegg breaching the order should contact Police on 0161 872 5050.
