A reminder to parents and carers of Year 9 students about Options Information Evening, which will take place in school on Thursday 24th November. Your child should already have brought a letter home about this – we look forward to seeing you on the evening to support your children in making those important choices relating to the subjects they will study in Years 10 and 11.

Our school production entitled “A Night at the Musicals” will take place in the Gracie Fields Theatre later this month, and promises to be a big hit with a collection of songs, dances and sketches from a selection of our favourite musicals such as Grease, Godspell and Chicago. The cast includes a wide range of students from Years 7 to 11 – in fact, there are over 60 of our students all eager to demonstrate their talent and prowess on stage. Tickets are available at Oulder Hill’s reception during school hours, in advance of the show, and cost £7 for adults, £4 for children or £20 for a family of 4 – members of the public are most welcome. Evening shows are on Tuesday 29th November and Thursday 1st December, starting at 7.00pm. There is also a matinee performance on Friday 2nd December starting at 3.00pm. We look forward to seeing you.

Last Friday our Year 9 Gifted and Talented students took part in an Enterprise Day. They were given the task of designing and manufacturing a trophy so that each subject area can award them to their Key Stage 3 'Student of the Year' towards the end of the summer term. They worked very well together and their designs were excellent. They got a lot out of the day and their creativity was “amazing”.

Next, some fantastic news about another one of our very talented students, this time in Dance. Ben Scott, in Year 9, qualified at regional level to take part in the International Dance Teachers Association “Medalist of the Year” competition, held last weekend at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. Ben’s freestyle team, who go by the name of “Delicious”, came first in the 13 and under freestyle team competition. Ben also excelled in some the other competitions; he came first in the boys’ 10 -13 freestyle solo, first in the boy/girl 10 -13 freestyle pairs and first in the boy/girl 10 - 13 rock ‘n’ roll category. Naturally, Ben’s parents, and everyone at Oulder Hill are very proud of his achievements.

Well done to 3 of our Year 11 boys, who last week officiated at the inaugural “primary league basketball competition”. In total, there were 13 schools taking part with over 150 parents, teachers and students in attendance, many of whom were extremely complimentary about the their organisation and standard of officiating. A huge well done to Jack Chantrey, Robert Heath and Jack Simpson.
