Anti Bullying Week - This week has been anti bullying week with a theme of “Stop and Think – Words Can Hurt “ Pupils have been involved in a variety of activities. As ‘Blue’ Friday coincides with Children in Need anti bullying wrist bands have been on sale at 50p each with all the proceeds going to 'Children In Need' Pupils wore their own clothes – with blue being the theme ! The student council suggested that for the day school will be known as ‘Blue Wood’
Skiing Activity - The following pupils are having a great time at ski sessions at the Chill Factor: Louis, James, Jason, Christopher and Louis R – there are a few places left if parents / carers are interested. Please contact Mr Smith for more details.
Sensory Garden -Two of our Year 11 pupils, Jason and Sam, are busy planning to plant hundreds of bulbs in the Sensory Garden – it will look great in the spring.
Clothes for School - Many thanks for your support with our first ‘Bag2School’ collection. We managed to raise £300 which is a fabulous effort. There will be another collection in April 2012.
Sports - 1st place—well done to Shama Ali who won the U13 Cross country race at Ashton!
Youth Clubs at Redwood - The youth clubs go from strength to strength. Please find some time to look on the website which gives a great deal of information on the clubs and holiday clubs ! You can log on to www.redwoodclubs.com.
Key Stage 3 News— As ever a very busy week. Year 8/9 blue attend Shokk Gym each week and are doing very well. A selection of students attended the cross country event, Shama came 1st in her group of year 7,8,9 race, Ellis came 14 out of 50—he did extremely well. Year 8/9 green and purple visited Gracie Fields Theatre to see how the lights, special effects and staging work as part of the topic they are working on. Sajida and Sabrina helped Mr Hall to give out certificates. In Assembly we talked about Remembrance Day and what it means. Pupils in 8B made a collage of a poppy using various materials. We also watched a video showing soldiers who helped us but who now need our help. To help students understand why we have 2 minutes silence on 11 November each year we watched a music video ‘A pittance of time’. Year 7 red had an autumn walk through the leaves.
Key Stage 4 news - we have some Cross Country stars in Key Stage 4. Congratulations to Tommy D, Raymond T and Brandon S who represented the school at a Cross country tournament, they came 11th, 9th and 2nd so excellent work boys! In 4U for Bonfire night they all worked together as a team and made a Guy Fawkes model. They collected a penny for the guy around School and raised £2.33. The class have decided to treat themselves to some biscuits or cakes with the money. Paul D and some of his class mates went swimming at Oulderhill swimming baths, Paul was very proud of himself as were the staff. Paul hadn’t been swimming for a while but he got stuck right in like a duck to water!! Mr Alcock’s cooking group have been looking at lots of Italian dishes, they have been making pasta dishes such as lasagne, spaghetti bolognaise and pizzas. SEB are making advent calendars ready for the 1st December. 4A took a trip to Clitheroe; they spent a full day looking at the wonderful sights. A huge well done to Jason N and Sam E this week, they have been working very hard on planting lots of Daffodil bulbs in the sensory garden ready for next Spring. They have given up their own break times to do this and have really enjoyed working together on it. Lots of pupils have been on work experience. So far they are all enjoying it and working very hard. We’ll give you an update on how they did next week. Daisy’s fact of the week: Portugal is one of the oldest nations in the world, established in the 12th century.
6th form news – we have hosted an Open Day for perspective parents/Carers. Thank you to all who visited we hope you found the visit informative. If anyone was unable to attend but would like a visit or a second visit please contact Michele White, Head of 6th Form on 01706 751892. Anne’s World of Work group have visited Nye Bevan House to find out about the Health Services and the role of people who work there. The group were shown around by Janet Dickinson, a representative of the dental health team. Everyone had a fantastic time and came back full of knowledge. Well done to Laura Nash. Laura can travel to school independently.
