Skate group hosts drop in session

Date published: 11 November 2011

The Balderstone and Kirkholt BMX and skateboarding group have hosted a drop in session to invite suggestions from local young people on potential new facilities for Balderstone Park.

During this drop in session, held at Kirkholt Youth Centre, ideas were discussed and sketches developed on what the young people would like to see being brought to Balderstone Park.

These plans will now be presented to the next Friends of Balderstone Park meeting for their consideration.

Present at this session was Lee Tyler - who is the lead coordinator for the BK skate group, alongside the youth officer for Kirkholt, Debbie Chawick, and Toby Werhun from Rochdale Extreme. Kirkholt Councillor Pat Colcough also dropped by to lend her support to the project.

Councillor Colclough said: "It was great that the new BK skate group was able to organise this drop in session as a half term activity. I also think this really demonstrates that the group are really determined to make something happen locally for the young people of Balderstone and Kirkholt.

"Certainly there were good ideas being created. This is helpful as it enables plans to be firmed up for a definite proposal to be developed which reflects the preferences of the young people who took part."

"I am optimistic the Balderstone Park Friends Group will now fully consider these ideas and be able to support a future bid for funds. This will allow the Park to provide more activities as part of its ongoing development."
