Children enjoy Guy Fawkes fun
Date published: 09 November 2011
Children enjoyed a host of activities in Rochdale’s two shopping centres as part of a Guy Fawkes Family Fun Day.
In the Rochdale Exchange there was sparkle and glitter a-plenty as children made their own Guy Fawkes pencil toppers and fridge magnets. The youngsters were treated to treacle and Susan Burke from Middleton was the winner of a free prize draw.
Rosie the Exchange mascot joined in with the workshop and kept Fireman Sam and volunteers from the Fire Service gave out safety stickers and important advice on keeping safe on bonfire night.
Another very popular attraction was the fantastic firework face painting which was free to all children.
The Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre decided to bring the fireworks inside for the youngsters - with a huge TV screening of a firework display.
Fireman Sam also made an appearance for the afternoon and e very child who came to visit him got a free framed photograph to take away, along with a goodie bag that contained glow sticks, LED Helicopters and a firework safety tip sheet.
There was also a chance for children to make their own 100 per cent safe sparkler and also a colouring activity with lots of firework scenes.
Debbie O’Brien, Town Centre Manager, said: “The attendance at these indoor children’s workshops was very pleasing, and with footfall up in both centres on the day, this shows that events such as these are positive for local businesses.
“This was a new event for the town centre, and one that brought children and families together.”
