The winning team and their 'Wrasp’ bars’
High school students from across the borough have been battling it out in a ‘Willy Wonka meets Sir Alan Sugar’ style Chocolate Challenge.
The ‘Redwood School Chocolate Challenge Enterprise Day’ saw mixed school teams competing for the top prize.
The winning team 'Delinquence’ included Zsolt Madar and Chloe Fleming from St. Cuthbert's; Zayd Anwar and Josh Toft-Wild from Falinge Park; Na'il Rafi and Charlotte Buckley from Oulder Hill; and Katelin Kershaw and Georgia Houghton from Siddal Moor.
Working together the team beat off stiff competition from eight other groups to secure the top spot.
This week the victors were reunited at Holy Family RC and CE College in Heywood to turn their idea into a reality. They created chocolate bars which consisted of white chocolate, orange fondant, raspberry and strawberry colouring and popping candy.
Once made the bars were packaged using the team's original design and labelled 'Wrasp'. Even the ingredients and a use-by-date were labelled on the back of the bar.
Event organiser, Wendy Hobson said: “The ‘Chocolate Challenge’ has been a huge success with some fantastic cross-school working and brilliant ideas from the students.
“ Thanks have to go everyone involved, Redwood School for funding the event, Oulder Hill and Holy Family RC and CE College, and especially Karen Ames and Wendy Bullen for organising the production session for the winners. For them to see their winning idea become a real product was an amazing experience.”
