Next, some news about the “Scary Story Competition,” which was run by our Learning Resource Centre to coincide with Halloween. As usual, the response was ‘amazing’ showing what creative (and scary) students we have at Oulder Hill. There were so many fantastic entries and with the standard so high, it was really difficult to judge, however the eventual winners were Beth Williams and Alina Akbar, and the runner up was Faisal Tahir. It was also a delight to work with students from Crossgates Primary School – the winners from there were Ellie Warren and Libby Williams. Well done to all winners and thank you as ever to the rest of the students who took part, for showing how creative and talented you all are.

We are delighted to inform readers that we are running the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver Awards this year, following on from the success of last year’s award. We look forward to bringing you news of all the events that the students will be involved in and the expeditions to all the far flung places that they embark upon as the year unfolds.

Finally, here is some news of yet more sporting success for Oulder Hill students. Our netball teams have been busy - the Year 8 team beat Kingsway Park by 13 points to nil. The team in full was Mio Griffiths and Sophie Holmes (who were joint ‘Players of the Match’), Alex Bagshaw, Rebecca Marshall, Emily Britton, Georgina Butterworth and Megan Kelly. Our Key Stage 4 team, consisting of players from Years 10 and 11 (and a couple from Year 8), were also triumphant, this time by 16 points to 2. The team was Hannah Culliney (who was ‘Player of the Match’), Kim Turner, Jennifer Nairn, Gabby Hampson, Katie Dobson, Mio Griffiths and Sophie Holmes. Whilst on the theme of sporting success, we would also like to say well done to the Year 9 football team who beat Hollingworth by 4 goals to 1 recently in the first round of the cup. Man of the match goes to Kaine Irvine for a great performance at centre back. Congratulations to all – you were fantastic ambassadors.
