Kirkholt Community Centre demolition
Date published: 02 November 2011
Councillors are set to approve the demolition of Kirkholt Community Centre.
The Community Centre is being vacated by all current occupiers on 27 November. From that date the building will be closed and no possible future use for the site has been identified.
Members of the Rochdale Township Committee are likely to approve the demolition at a meeting next week.
A report due before the Committee states that the building is in an area of ‘high levels of vandalism and nuisance behaviour’ and there are fears that additional costs will be incurred when the building is closed, from break-ins, vandalism and arson.
The centre is part of the re-development plan for Kirkholt and would have been scheduled for demolition in the future anyway.
