Date published: 01 November 2011

The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has welcomed the appointment of Margaret Ollerenshaw to sit on the Trust Board as a Non-Executive Director.

The Appointments Commission’s Health and Social Care Appointments Committee has agreed the appointment of Mrs Ollerenshaw. Her appointment follows the vacancy created after Mrs Fiona Burke decided to stand down from her role as Non-Executive for personal and family reasons.

Mrs Ollerenshaw, from Droylsden, started her position with the Trust on Tuesday 1 November 2011 for a period until 31 March 2013.

Mrs Ollerenshaw currently works at a senior management level at Royal Mail Group. Prior to joining Royal Mail, she worked for Cable and Wireless and Royal Bank of Scotland Group. She has extensive transformational change experience and is recognised for bringing commercial thinking and HR strategies together to maximise performance, having delivered a number of programmes across different sectors which attract, retain and develop staff, significantly reduce costs, and increase organisational capability.

Mrs Ollenrenshaw said: “It is a privilege to be appointed to this role and I’m very pleased to join the Trust team. I am looking forward to contributing positively to the future development of the Trust for the benefit of the communities it serves and the dedicated employees within it.”

Mr John Jesky, Trust Chairman, said: “On behalf of the Board I am delighted to welcome Margaret to the Trust as a Non-Executive Director. The role of Non-Executive Director is an important one. It holds to account the work of the Trust and its management in providing quality healthcare services for patients and the communities we serve.

“Margaret brings to the Trust significant experience in human resources and in working within a large multi-site customer focus service organisation. She will join me and the other five Non-Executives in advising and helping the Board to work in the public interest, to plan for future improvements within and across our hospitals and to ensure that the Trust finances are managed properly, particularly during the next few years which will bring even more financial challenges to the Trust.”

The appointment of Mrs Ollerenshaw has been made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments’ Code of Practice.

All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Mrs Ollerenshaw has not declared any political activity and does not hold any ministerial appointments. All non-executive directors of NHS Trusts receive a nationally set remuneration of £6,096 per annum.
