Redwood School
Welcome back after the break, we cannot believe how quickly the first half term has gone. As ever many thanks to all our parents/carers for your excellent support in what was a very good half term – there have been numerous highlights from across the school and the pupils have worked extremely well!
Sporting Non Uniform Day – we held a special non uniform day as we finished for the break pupils and staff wore a sporting theme for the day and made donations to the hospice. This was in memory of Mr Paul Taylor who was a great supporter of Redwood’s Triathlon club and attended school on many occasions. Paul recently died of cancer and his wife has indicated that any donations should be made to the hospice. A very worthy cause indeed!
Ros Blackburn presentation -Many thanks to those parents/carers who attended the presentation entitled ‘Living with Autism.’ It was an excellent turn out with over 400 people from different agencies or organisations attending the talk. We are sure you will have found it thought provoking and inspirational!
Student Council - The members of the council met to discuss the types of activities we will be organising during ‘Anti Bullying Week’ which will take place during 14 – 18 November. The theme this year will be: “Stop and Think – Words Can Hurt.”
Key Stage 4 News – Year 10 and 11 pupils recently attended the Future First exhibition; they got the chance to look at the stalls to see the different career opportunities available to them. They all found the afternoon an informative one and helped them with lots of ideas for their futures. SEB, along with some other students enjoyed Theatre performances from The Oily Cart Theatre Company. The company tour the country performing to young children and to students with special needs. The group recently performed at the Manchester International Festival so it was an honour for the school to have such a renowned and talented company perform for us. The students were treated to 3 different half hour shows centred around sensory experiences. Bubbles was a show geared toward touch, Glupy was a show geared towards touch and vision and Rose centred around smells. SEB also had a coffee afternoon in which parents and carers were invited in to watch a film showing what they have been doing during the half term. The afternoon was a great success and went a long way to help relations between school and home. SEB have also been busy learning all about their chosen Olympic countries, they took a trip to Wing Yip in Manchester to buy some foods to transform their classroom into a Chinese restaurant for the day, and sampled some of the many Chinese foods. 4M have been busy collecting Morrison’s garden vouchers, these will hopefully allow them to buy gardening supplies to help them with their gardening ventures. So if you have any please send them in to us, many thanks. SSC have been shopping to make more sandwiches to sell to staff, the pupils and staff are working very hard every week to complete their enterprise task. Well done everyone. Daisy’s fact of the week: Both Tintin and the Smurfs are Belgian.
