Zumbathon in aid of cancer charity

Date published: 30 October 2011

Zumba enthusiasts joined together on Sunday afternoon for a zumbathon to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Over 30 women took part in the two hour event at Oulder Hill Leisure Centre, organised by zumba instructor Laura Nugent, to raise awareness of the charity and cash to support it.

Ms Nugent, of Nudge Zumba, has taught the Latin inspired dance fitness classes since January.

Speaking about the charity zumbathon, she said: “I thought it would be a good idea to do a fun fundraiser and Macmillan is a very worthwhile cause.

“This is the first fundraiser I have done but I think I will do another one next year.”

Each participant paid £7 to take part and received a goody bag.

Ms Nugent hopes to raise in the region of £250-£300.

She added: “Zumba is a fun way of keeping fit and it is nice to see people enjoying themselves.”
