Fire-fighters attended an incident in Rochdale after containers fell off the back of a lorry on Friday morning.

The incident happened at the junction of Manchester Road and Drake Street at around 10.47am.

On arrival fire-fighters found four 200ltr containers that had fallen off the back of a lorry into the road.

Approximately 80 litres had spilled from a damaged container.

Fire crews quickly secured the containers to prevent further spillage.

Utilising a special appliance known as the Environmental Protection Unit fire-fighters recovered the damaged container and the spillage was directed through combined drains (in consultation with United Utilities) - no water courses affected.

The road was re-opened at approximately 1.30pm.
