Fire service: Don't play with fireworks
Date published: 25 October 2011
People are being reminded not to play with fireworks following a series of incidents.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) has been visiting schools and distributing posters reminding people about the dangers fireworks brings.
However, GMFRS says that two incidents over the past few days have shown just how damaging they can be.
Yesterday a 10-year-old boy lost a finger after a firework exploded in his hand.
And Man City derby hero Mario Balotelli made the headlines over the weekend after a firework caused a blaze in his luxury home in Cheshire.
Group Manager Tony Lander, GMFRS Head of Prevention Service Support, said: "Our message is very simple - don't play with fireworks.
“Although fireworks may be fun to watch, they can cause serious injury and damage and misusing them can have a devastating effect on people's lives.”
