53 arrested in burglary crackdown
Date published: 24 October 2011
Police have arrested 53 people, executed five warrants and seized £40,000 of property and £1,480 cash in a co-ordinated operation to reduce burglary across the borough.
As part of ‘Operation Reckoning,’ over a week long period, officers tracked down those wanted in connection with burglaries, carried out stop checks on suspects and monitored second hand shops to ensure stolen goods were not being handled.
Police also patrolled burglary hotspots, advised people on insecurities such as open doors and windows and took part in crime prevention road shows.
Chief Inspector Nadeem Mir of Greater Manchester Police’s Rochdale Division said: “There is usually an increase in break-ins at this time of year as evenings become darker, and I would remind residents to go all out to beat burglars by remembering alarms, locks and lights. The simple three-point message is a reminder to put the alarm on, lock all doors and windows and leave a light on when leaving your home empty.”
