New era begins for Canalside
Date published: 22 October 2011
The restoration of the Canalside Warehouse in Littleborough saw the start of a brand new chapter in the building’s life and it has just reached another milestone – as the first resident has moved in.
Canalside, Clegg Hall Road, is a restoration project which saw the fire-destroyed Grade II listed building brought back to life and converted into eight 2-4 bedroom homes.
Stuart Taylor, from Hurstead, is the first person to move into the development.
Mr Taylor an Account Manager in Manchester, said: “I am very excited to be moving to Canalside, I have admired the development for months travelling to work on the train and am delighted to now be making it my home.”
The main contractor for the development was MADE Contracts Ltd, in conjunction with the Developer, Butterfly Riot.
Richard Sommerville, director of MADE Contracts Ltd, said: “We are delighted to welcome Stuart Taylor as the first person to move into the newly developed Canalside Warehouse at Clegg Hall, as is really the culmination of months of challenging work for our site construction team.
“The Grade II listed, fire-damaged warehouse has been painstakingly brought back to life using local materials and traditional construction methods and the fact that it sits directly on top of the Rochdale Canal brought about its own unique challenges.
“We have also worked together with Rochdale MBC’s planning dept to ensure the completed building fits into the Clegg Hall conservation area.
“Hopefully now the residents of Rochdale will be able to enjoy this restored building for years to come.”
Canalside has been marketed by Crossley Estate Agents.
Suzanne Halkyard from the firm, added: “Marketing this development and watching it come to life has been really exciting and now we can welcome new tenants into their new homes we are delighted.”
