Sport, Culture & Leisure Village in Heywood
Date published: 26 January 2008
A planning application has been submitted for a building that will cost around £6.75 million with an additional £1.5 million for external pitches. The plans include some innovative design by the architect to incorporate the remodelling and refurbishment of the existing Sports Hall on West Starkey Street and the demolition of the existing pool and a decision is expected by March.
This will create a single new centre that includes a 25 metre, six lane swimming pool and teaching pool, a 100 station fitness studio, youth gym, dance studio and additional spaces for community and youth use for both sports, learning and the arts.
The main funder of the project is Heywood New Deal who will contribute £4 million with more than £2 million committed by Rochdale Council and the balance coming from external grants.
