The new members of teaching staff
Rochdale Sixth Form College has opened its doors to 13 new teachers this term.
Four of the new staff members have been brought in as Subject Leaders, to oversee and maintain a high standard of teaching in each of their specialist subject areas.
Among the new Subject Leaders is Martin Stafford, who previously worked at Cardinal Newman College, Preston, which is recognised as Outstanding by Ofsted.
Mr Stafford will now lead the College’s English department. He said: “When looking at Colleges to continue my teaching career, Rochdale SFC was an obvious choice. It’s great to be part of a team with such a strong work ethic and passion for education, and the introduction of this new Subject Leader role really demonstrates Rochdale’s dedication to delivering a quality education for its students.”
Joining Mr Stafford, Shaheen Lajee, Laura Harrison and Vanessa Ablott all join the College as Subject Leaders in Psychology, Chemistry and Business Studies & Economics respectively. This new tier of middle leadership is further bolstered with two internal promotions, for Dominic Pinto and Sara Petts, who are now overseeing the Law and Biology departments, after excelling in their posts last year.
Julian Appleyard, Principal at Rochdale SFC said: “Each and every new member of staff has a proven track record in their subject areas, and will be a real asset to an already strong team of teachers. The new Subject Leaders in particular will have an important role to play in supporting and guiding staff and students alike, and ensuring we continue to deliver the excellent teaching for which the College is becoming renowned.”
