Oulder Hill Community School
A reminder to everyone that school closes for half term at 2.50pm on Friday 21 October and reopens again the normal time on Monday 31 October.
Thank you to all the parents and carers of Year 11 students who attended Parents’ Evening on Thursday. It was wonderful to see so many of you supporting your children in what is such an important time for them. We really appreciate and value the close partnerships we have with you and know that the discussions had on the evening will undoubtedly play an important part in maximising success for the students in the forthcoming exams.
Parents and carers of Year 7 students please note that Review Afternoon will take place on Wednesday 19th October – this is an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s form tutor to discuss how they have settled in to life at Oulder Hill. Your child will have details of your appointment time – we look forward to seeing you then.
Congratulations to our Year 9 football team who beat Holy Family by 6 goals to 2 last week. The team played superbly, and the margin of victory could have easily been higher than it was. All boys gave it their all and were a credit to themselves and the school – such was the standard, it was impossible to pick one man of the match, so Dennon Ashcroft and Nathan Colclough had to share this accolade. Well done lads.
Continuing on the theme of sporting success we would also like to say well done to our Year 8 rugby team who took part in the ‘emerging schools festival’ at Rochdale Rugby Union Club last week. Although the team won just 1 out of their 4 games, they were only narrowly beaten in the others and their performances showed how far they have come in a short space of time since recently getting together as a team. Tri Nguyen and Ryan White scored 3 tries each in the tournament and were also scouted by Rochdale Rugby Union Club and asked to attend their training sessions. Well done to Tri and Ryan, and also the rest of the team who were Corey Hill, Morgan Stubbs, Harrison Ward, Devon Forden, Adam Khan, Mathew Marcantonatos, Charlie Hill, Josh Mathews, Nathan Booth, Liam Moore and George Genesis.
Finally, here is some news about a fantastic trip our Art department recently put on. Last week, they took 65 Year 10 students who are studying GCSE Art, to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park near Wakefield, in order to further develop their understanding of how to produce sculptures to help them with their course. The main exhibition was by Jaume Plensa, who had created large scale sculpture based on the figure and using letterforms. They also saw animation, sculpture and drawing by Rachel Goodyear among others. Mrs Abraham said that the students’ behaviour and attitude were exemplary throughout, and ‘they represented Oulder Hill brilliantly’. The students had a fantastic experience – quotes include ‘the trip was amazing’ and ‘I enjoyed the trip because this inspired me that work can be done in very different ways not just on paper’. The students will now develop the art work seen at the sculpture park into their own GCSE final pieces and write up the visit to meet assessment objectives 2 and 4. They will also follow up the sketches they did on the day with research into the artists
