Redwood’s After School Clubs and Youth Clubs - We have had a terrific response to the After School Clubs, Evening Youth Clubs and our Saturday morning club with over the past week with over 50 youngsters taking part. If you wish your child to attend after school clubs or the Youth Clubs on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings, 6.00pm – 8.00pm, please contact Mr David Butterworth in school.

McMillan Coffee Morning -Many thanks for your support for our fundraising day – a fabulous total of £370 was raised.

Student Council elections - The first meeting of the new council has been held, those selected to represent their classes did a great job ! We look forward to hearing from Tonya and Kyle in KS4, who attended a meeting of all school council reps to find out what makes an effective student council.

Design an Olympic T shirt Logo - Congratulations to Tommy L in Y11 whose design won 1st place recently. His design will now be printed on t shirts within the department.

October Half Term holiday clubs - Following the success of the summer clubs, watch out for the information which will be circulated in the next week for places on the clubs between the dates of Monday 24 – Friday 28 October.

Family Benefits – Thank you to those parents/carers of students in KS4 and post 16 who attended the recent workshop giving details of various benefit issues which are available to families. I understand that the information provided was useful.

‘Living with Autism’ - Ros Blackburn - A reminder that parents / carers can attend this 2 hr presentation on Wednesday 19th October, 4pm – 6pm, at The Gracie Fields Theatre by contacting school to book a place.

Key Stage 4 news -the whole School came together to raise money for Macmillan, Key Stage 4 put on a coffee morning. This involved pupils from 4U, 4A and 4M baking lots of cakes. In total we raised £208 for the charity, thank you to everyone for your support.4R went on a trip to Queens park last week to make the most of the lovely weather .They had a look at the garden areas for some ideas for their sensory garden. 4M have been working extremely hard, students made cheese and onion pie for staff to buy, and this week they will be making meat and potato pie. The staff are very impressed, even Mr Pidgeon commented on how delicious it was! The student support centre are also selling food to staff, they have been on a shopping trip this week for ingredients to make bacon and sausage sandwiches. During the motor mechanics sessions the Vocational Education group learnt how to change a tyre and to do this one of the pupils got to steer the car into the right place, with the guidance of staff of course. The P.E groups worked hard last week, testing out their skills at Athletics and swimming. This involved hurdles, relay races, long jump. Key stage 3 news As part of Global Earth and Space week Year 8/9 blue and purple are using the internet to research our solar system and using live data from NASA. In English Year 8/9 red wrote letters using the ‘clicker’ computer programme to Mr Pidgeon and Mrs Finn. A selection of pupils went horse riding, for English lessons the lilac room went shopping for chocolate to make chocolate brownies they are reading Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Year 8/9 yellow are making tin hats for a World War II project. 

Year 8/9 orange had a sensory experience in their Spanish Lesson—using sand and water for a Spanish holiday!

Sixth form news - As part of their Vocational Education, Anne’s manufacturing group have been trying new recipes for baking bread. Aiden, Ryan, Callan and David have now mastered the skills so well, that they have been bombarded with orders from staff. Danielle and Hannah in their Personal Independence Programme have been making simple snacks and drinks. This week the duo made chocolate spread on toast and learnt how to use a knife safely. Both Danielle and Hannah did really well and are well on their way to achieving their personal targets. Well done to you both. On Tuesday Sal and her Vocational Educational group visited the Social Lounge at the Cherwell Centre as part of identifying and finding out about community facilities. The group enjoyed a drink in the cafe and had the opportunity to look round and ask staff some questions. 

Come and join us at the 6th form open day – Tuesday 8 November 10 – 12.00 and 1.30 – 2.30 an chance to have a look at the 6th forms facilities and chat with staff about the vocational opportunities.
