Travel and Tourism students from Bury College have raised £301 for Farplace Animal Rescue by packing bags at Morrisons in Heywood.

The seven Level 1 and Level 2 students are enthusiastic abut helping the rescue centre, which specialises in animal welfare, the rescue of animals and environmental protection, habitat creation and development.

Seventeen-year-old Farhan Fiaz from Rochdale took part. The former Hollingworth Business and Enterprise College pupil, said: “It’s great that College has given us the opportunity to help raise money for a worthwhile cause. I like taking part and raising money and it’s good to have a chance to do something different.”

Zeeshan Babar and Nuala Walsh from Rochdale and Sacha Vickers from Heywood also took part.

Gail Thomas, volunteer fundraiser for Farplace Animal Rescue said: “I really appreciate the help and volunteers we’ve had from Bury College. Initiatives such as this are really valuable in helping cover some of the cost of our vet bills at the centre.”

Travel and Tourism tutor Unmairah Mukhtar, who helped organise the fundraising, added: “Getting involved with initiatives such as this enables students to contribute to valuable charities that rely on donations to continue their good work.”
