A man who has struggled to walk for the past 11 years is to take part in a 10k charity walk.
Michael Scott, 45, was diagnosed with osteoarthritis of both hips earlier this year, following years of agony, and in July he had a major operation to have his right hip replaced.
Now, in a bid to give something back to the community, Mr Scott, who is Chairman of Rochdale Round Table has decided to take on a 10k walking challenge at Hollingworth Lake to raise money for children in need in Rochdale and Springhill Hospice.
Mr Scott, from Norden, will take on the walking challenge in Saturday 12 November. Others who have lost weight, had knee operations, or have just never done that distance are also taking part.
Mr Scott will walk around the lake three times to reach his target, along with friends and other participants he is hoping to celebrate the end of the walk at Littleborough Rugby Club, when they take on Oldham that day.
Mr Scott said: “This is my ambition for this year and it will be a big achievement for me to complete the walk considering half a mile was all I could achieve before having the operation. Who knows what it will be next year.”
He added: “This is something I wasn’t able to do and now I can do it and its all for a good cause.”
