Park friends in the running for community grant

Date published: 08 October 2011

The Friends of Springfield Park are banking on the community’s support to help them bag £6,000.

The group has been shortlisted for the chance to win a community grant from Natwest CommunityForce and they now need online votes to secure the money.

If successful the group would spend the grant on five pieces of vandal proof, outdoor, exercise equipment.

The group is a volunteer project set up to regenerate, redevelop and rejuvenate the park.

Speaking on behalf of the group, David Logan, said: “We work to develop the park generally but sympathetically in its original country park style.

“The group is made up solely of members of the community, working in close conjunction with the local council, its officers and councillors, taking into account what the local community have suggested they would like to enjoy in the park.

“In these times of considerable austerity, the group is working to raise funding to make the park a place of relaxation and enjoyment, regardless of age, ability, sex, religion or ethnicity and at no direct cost to its users.”
