Two fire-fighters from the borough of Rochdale who have served the community for more than 20 years have been awarded a medal for their service.

Stuart Brown from Rochdale and Andrew Anderson from Middleton were honoured at a Long Service and Good Conduct Award Ceremony held recently.

The pair were among 14 people from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service who were awarded the Fire and Rescue Service Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.

The medal is awarded on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen to operational staff who have 'rendered long and meritorious service' as part of Fire Services across the UK.

Along with the Long Service awards, the celebration event marked other successes in the Service.

The event brought the uniformed members from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and their families together with support staff colleagues and their families for a ceremony led by County Fire Officer Steve McGuirk, Chairman of the Fire Authority Councillor David Acton and Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester Christian Wewer.

Mr Acton, said: "This is an evening to celebrate and say thanks to those who have loyally served the fire service for 20 years or more.”
