Swimming Training:
Year 5/6 swimming training is on Friday mornings. Please be at Castleton baths by 8.30am.

Open Days:
The next Open Day for parents of children starting school in September 2012 is on Monday 10th October at 11am.

Harvest Festival:
Our Harvest service will be at St. Martin’s Church at 2pm on Tuesday, 11 October. We will be walking from school at 1.30pm and parents are welcome to join us. Can children please bring in tins or packed food which will collected and given to PETRUS which is a charity for homeless people in Rochdale. Thank you.

Eco News:
On Thursday 13 October, 15 schools from all over the country will be attending an open day. We will be sharing our expertise and knowledge about sustainability.

Glee/Singing Club:
Mrs. Prince is starting this Club for Years 3 and 4 children. It will start next Friday, 14 October and will run after school each Friday until 4.15pm. If your child is interested in joining, please sign the slip on the back of the newsletter.

Macmillan Coffee Afternoon:
Thank you for your support – we raised £116 for this charity.

Year 6 Trip:
Yesterday our Year 6 children went to Manchester City Art Gallery. The children were all really well behaved and there were lots of positive comments about their behaviour both from the gallery and on the train so well done to all the children.

Morrison’s Vouchers:
Well are now collecting the ‘Lets Grow’ vouchers from Morrisons.

Music Lessons:
Please ensure your children bring their musical instruments in each week as lessons will still be charged for. Lessons are now £2.85 per week. Any outstanding music fees in order for lessons to continue.
Monday – Clarinet
Tuesday – Brass
Friday - Guitar

Dinner Money:
Lunches are now £1.80 per day - £9.00 per week and should be paid on a Monday morning. Please send dinner money in an envelope with your child’s name and class on. There is a copy of the menus on our school portal. Next week we are on Week 3.

Castleton Children’s Centre:
The free ‘Stay and Play Sessions’ are here at St. Edward’s on Wednesday mornings 9.15am-10.30am. There will be coffee and biscuits served in the community room at 9am before the session starts at 9.15am.

Text Messaging Service:
We are continuing to use our text messaging service and in some cases, instead of sending letters out. Therefore it is extremely important that you ensure you keep school up-to-date with any change in mobile phone numbers.

Free Parent Support:
There is a FREE website we recommend to help you support children’s literacy. It is packed with over 100 FREE eBooks, a phonics guide including how to say the sounds correctly, videos from leading literacy experts including Ruth Miskin and Debbie Hepplewhite and practical support and advice about reading.
