A quick reminder to parents and carers of Year 11 students that Year 11 Parents’ Evening takes place in school on Thursday 13 October between 4.00pm and 7.00pm. Please ensure your child makes all relevant appointments for you. We look forward to seeing you on the evening to support your child in what is a vital period in their education.

Last week our staff held a coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. We would like to thank our very generous staff for all the time they spent baking the huge selection of delicious cakes and for donating money for this very worthwhile cause by buying them. A grand total of £173 was raised. Special thanks to Mrs Marshall and Mrs Jones for all the hard work they put in to organise and run the event.

As many of you will be aware, part of our remit as a Language College has been to teach about and celebrate languages and cultures from across the globe in order to educate our students about the world in which they live. Due to our fantastic work in this area we are delighted to announce that we have had the prestigious International School Award renewed for yet another 3 years – congratulations to students and staff on this wonderful achievement.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate some of our former students who have won awards recently. Esrar Khan has been awarded the title of ‘Advanced Apprentice of the Year’ for plumbing and Tom Cadwallader has achieved ‘Engineering Apprentice of the Year’ for his first year of study. Congratulations to both of you – it is always nice to hear that our students go on to achieve great things.

Now for some sporting news. Our Year 7 and 8 girls’ football team competed in the English schools cup last week, playing against Wright Robinson Sports College from Manchester. In a very close game we eventually lost by 4 goals to 3 and could well have taken the game into extra time if it were not for an ‘amazing’ penalty save from their keeper in the closing moments of the match. Our girls can be extremely proud of their achievements because they played superbly and were an absolute credit to the school. Well done to Mio Griffiths (captain), Charlotte Cannings, Erin Bishop, Molly Williams, Alex Bagshaw, Rebecca Marshall, Chloe Thompson, Georgina Butterworth, Kainat Nafees, Moet Griffiths, Angel Hadfield and Sophie Charlton.

Congratulations also to our Year 7 and Year 9 netball teams who both beat Falinge Park High School last week. The Year 7 team, who won by 7 points to 1, consisted of Megan Ratu, Samiya Karamat, Lani Knox, Emma Linaker, Chloe Murphy, Jenna Spencer, Lois Wrest, Zara Ahmed and Olivia Storto, who was the player of the match. The Year 9 team pulled out an amazing performance, and were victorious by a staggering 22 points to 1 – they were Ellie Jones (player of the match), Shannon Buckley, Danielle Williams, Ella Storto, Melissa Chambers, Sian Hegarty, Aleena Ali and Lucy Moore.

Finally, our Year 7 boys’ football team played their first match of the season last week. They played superbly to beat Falinge Park by 5 goals to 1, in what Mr Rais described as a ‘thoroughly deserved victory’. The team in full was - Owain Harrison, Ali Salman, Joe Wrest, Daniel Cryer, William Moore, Dominic Boothman, Brandon Kwei-Sutcliffe, Stephen Nairn (who was also man of the match), Jamie Ogden, William Taylor, Jack Taylor, Brandon Coughlan, Adam Buckley and Cameron Filkin. Their next match is against St Cuthbert’s – we look forward to seeing how they get on.
