Charity bid to raise money for family devastated by fire
Date published: 29 September 2011
A charity day has been organised to help raise much needed funds for a family whose home was devastated by a fire whilst they were on holiday.
The Castle family were holidaying at Thorpe Park, when they were contacted by a neighbour who broke the dreadful news that a fire had broke out at their flat, on Ansdell Road, Turf Hill, on 10 September.
Ray Castle, his partner Sally and their three children Christopher, 4, Abbie, 7 and Debbie, 6, returned home to find their family home had been completely gutted and their belongings destroyed.
Now, in a bid to help the family, entertainer Paul Chance and his wife Liz are organising a fundraising event for the family.
Mr Chance has known the family for three years after meeting them at the Gateway Centre, he said: “We decided to host a benefit do to raise money to help the family get their lives back on track.”
The event, named ‘Help a Family Day,’ will take place at the Wellfield Working Men’s Club on Sunday 16 October from 12-4pm.
The day will see four acts take to the stage, including Mr Chance, Elvis Presley impersonator Lewis Gates, Jez and Blackpool based comedian KSK.
Tickets for the day are available from the Club or on the day for a £1 donation.
The Wellfield Club Committee has already donated £100 to the cause and although Mr Chance hasn’t set a fundraising target, he said: “Anything we can get will be fantastic.”
