Club supporters descend on beer festival

Supporters of Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club turned out in full force over the weekend for the club’s Beer and Cider Festival - helping to raise approximately £3,500.

The festival, now in its second year, was organised to raise much needed funds for the club and had scores of visitors through the doors on Friday and Saturday. 

Guests enjoyed a variety of 21 draught beers, five ciders and a variety of special bottled beers as well as live music from local bands including Blackley Brass Band, the Lazy Maybees and the Free Sandwiches.

This year the club isn’t holding a rowing regatta because of the reduced water level at the lake, meaning that the festival was a vital way for the club to raise funds. In a bid to improve the final fundraising total, this year, for the first time, the club gave local businesses the opportunity to sponsor a barrel.

Ian John, Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club Captain, was thrilled with the event; he said it was “amazing.”

One of the festival’s organisers, Tony Edmondson, said: “The ultimate aim is to buy boats for the youngsters; we have got some fabulous young kids coming through - buying the best boats and the best equipment costs money.”

Tim Booth, also one of the organisers, described the festival as “cracking” he added: “We want to keep it running year on year and once it gets a name for itself we think it will grow and grow; we have had some great support.”
